Monday 18th, 2015 Math Homework

1. Solve the following problems.
  • Draw a picture diagram
  • Fill in the dimension of the rectangular prism
  • write a number sentence
  • find the volume of the rectangular prism
a. L: 15 ft     W:7 ft      H: 5ft

b. L: 17 cm    W: 12 cm    H: 9cm

c. L: 24 ml     W: 20 ml   H: 13 ml

Checklist:

____ Did I draw a picture diagram

____ Did I fill in the dimension of the rectangular prism

____ Did I write my number sentence

____ Did I find the volume of the rectangular prism

2. Heaven stacks cube-shaped beads that measure 1 centimeter on each edge in a storage box. The box can hold 6 layers of 24 cubes with no gaps or overlaps. What is the volume of Heaven's storage box?

  • What are the dimensions of the base of the box?
  • What operation can you use to find the area of the base shape?
 Show two ways you can solve this problem.
Hint (Base= length x width)  Base and Area are one and the same.

V= Length x Width x Height
V= Base x height

3. What if,  each cube-shaped bead measured 2 centimeters on each edge? How would the dimensions of Heaven's storage box change? How would the volume change? Explain Your Thinking.
